Barrelhouse Bonni: Calendar

Thanks to all! We had a wonderful neighborhood party with a huge potluck and lots of Christmas carols on the grand piano downstairs at the UU castle.

Starting after 10 p.m., the crowd only grew as the hour got later. With Lawrence and Jerry-O on guitars, Barry on bass, and Wes on drums, the funky, driving engine of Chicago blues churned all night. We clicked into a groove and the music flowed like melted butter. Now it was after 3 a.m. Wes was singing BB King’s “To Know you is to love you:”  “the power…of your loving…: On my little keyboard, waves of organ sounds floated over the top of the music and the musicians nodded their approval. The band had been gifted with the musical power of love, to create sounds and feelings. People stood up and laughed and danced.

It was a blast playing for the seniors with Chicago's most senior blueswoman singer, Gloria Shannon, who also does jazz and even a few country tunes. Playing with us was her drummer Walter Kindred.
